1. New York City Surprise

Zoosters Breakout의 변주로 마다가스카 2 에는 Once Upon A Time In Africa가 있다면 마다가스카 3에는 New York City Surprise가 있습니다. 작중에서는 알렉스의 생일을 축하해 주기 위해 마티, 맬먼과 글로리아가 흙으로 뉴욕 시를 만든 것을 알렉스가 보고 펭귄들을 찾으러 직접 몬테 카를로로 갈 것을 결정하는 장면에서 흐릅니다. 전체적으로 앞으 두 노래에 비해 현대적이고 세련되었다는 느낌이 드는 곡입니다. London Music Works와 프라하 시립 필하모닉이 낸 Film Music 2012에서 커버되기도 하였습니다. 이 버전은 한스 짐머의 원곡보다 약간 소리가 비는 감이 없지 않아 있지만 애플 뮤직에서 들을 수 있습니다. 마다가스카 3 수록곡 중에서도 제가 좋아하는 노래입니다.

줄리언의 플레이리스트 #1. 원곡은 C+C Music Factory의 1990년 발매된 동명의 곡입니다. 작중에선 조용히 침투하자는 뉴요커 4인방의 말을 씹고 신나게 폭죽까지 터뜨리는 대왕님을 보여주면서 카지노 전체를 훑어주는 장면까지 흐릅니다. 원곡보다 더 신나는 편곡이라고 생각합니다. 베이스에 깔리는 사운드가 더 풍부해져서 그런 것 같습니다.

줄리언 플레이리스트 #2. Spice Girls의 노래 Wannabe를 리메이크한 것입니다. 1996년 노래입니다. If you wanna be my lover~로 시작하는 코러스는 거의 그대로 들어갔습니다. 원곡의 템포를 높이고 줄리언 식 가사 변형을 거쳤습니다. 작중에서는 카지노 씬에서 줄리언이 모리스를 돌려가며(...) 관제실에서 부르는 노래로 삽입되었습니다.

4. Game On 

제 마다가스카 시리즈 OST 최애곡입니다. 마다가스카 3의 빌런 캡틴 샹탈 듀브아의 테마곡이라고 보시면 됩니다. 작중 첫 등장은 몬테카를로 카지노가 폭발한 자리의 화염 사이로 듀브아와 그의 Monaco Animal Control이 등장하는 장면입니다. 포인트는 듀브아의 머리 위로 악마 뿔처럼 화염의 짙은 부분이 형성된다는 것인데요. 동물들 입장에선 악마나 다름없으니 노린 연출이겠죠. 이 멜로디는 센트럴 파크 동물원에서 스테파노, 그리고 알렉스를 잡는 듀브아가 등장할 때 다시 등장하고, 그 씬에 흐르는 Rescuing Stefano 곡에도 들어갑니다.

한스짐머 특유의 풍부한 사운드가 잘 드러난 곡이라고 생각합니다. 다른 블록버스터 영화에서 쓰인 것처럼 완전한 오케스트라 온리 곡은 아니지만 다른 현대적인 악기와 더불어서 멋진 소리를 가지고 있어요. 

 

5. Hot In Herre(By Danny Jacobs)

줄리언의 플레이리스트 #3. 곡 전체가 나오진 않았고, 비행기가 추락한 곳의 전ㄳ줄 위에서 줄리언이 곡예를 펼치면서 'I am getting so hot, I'm gonna get my fur off'을 흥얼거리는 장면에 나옵니다. 원곡은 Nelly의 Hot In Herre이고, 파티 음악스러운 분위기로 곡의 템포를 약간 당긴 다음 가사를 줄리언에 맞게 수정한 곡입니다.

네. 알렉스는 King of New York에서 King of the Cool Jerks가 되어버렸습니다. 

 

7. Light The Hoop On Fire!

제목은 고리에 불을 붙여라!의 뜻입니다. 비탈리가 자중 과거에 한 대사이죠. 그 이후로 물론...이하 생략합니다. 작중에선 스테파노가 알렉스에게 비탈리의 과거 이야기를 들려주는 장면에서 나옵니다. 첫 부분 분위기가 마펭 OST 4. Sclateri의 B part랑 비슷한 것 같습니다.

 

8. Fur Power

한스 짐머의 아이디어 고갈이 의심되는 곡입니다....에드워드 엘가의 Pomp and Circumstance(위풍당당 행진곡으로 알려져 있죠.) 멜로디 도 시도레 라 솔 파 미파솔 레~를 가져다 쓴 곡입니다. 물론 뒷부분에는 짤막하게 Best Friends의 멜로디가 붙여지진 합니다. 작중에서는 서커스 동물들이 알렉스의 말빨(?)에 넘어가 Fur power!을 외치는 장면에서 나옵니다.

 

9. Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien

에디트 피아프의 샹송 Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien의 듀브아 버전입니다. 제목은 '아니요, 나는 전혀 후회하지 않아요'라는 뜻입니다. 이 곡을 듣고 다쳤던 듀브아의 팀원들이 전부 멀쩡해져서 일어나는 걸 보면 영화 <인셉션>에서 이 곡의 역할에서 모티프를 따 온 걸까요? 작중에선 시간 상 뒷부분만 나옵니다.

알렉스와 지아의 공중그네 데이트 씬에 삽입되는 음악입니다. 개인적으로 마다가스카 3개 OST에 실린 가사가 있는 곡 중 가장 가사가 아름다운 곡이라고 생각합니다.

11. Rescuing Stefano

제목에서 알 수 있듯이 듀브아로부터 스테파노를 구하는 씬에 삽입된 음악입니다. 그 장면뿐만 아니라 센트럴 파크 동물원에서 눈을 뜬 뉴요커 4인방의 당황스러움이 표출되는 장면에서부터 시작하여 알렉스와 듀브아가 결판을 볼 때까지 쭉 흐르는 긴 음악입니다. 그답게 여러 멜로디가 섞이는데, Best Friends, Game On, Once Upon A Time In Africa 등이 있습니다. 가장 OST에 부합하는 노래라고 생각합니다. 분위기 변화에 따른 감정 변화가 뛰어난 곡이거든요. 장면과 함께 보시면 훨씬 생동감을 느끼실 수 있습니다. 특히 조용하게 전개된 첫부분에서 듀브아가 코브라를 쓰러뜨리며 나오는 씬으로 전환되는 부분이 백미입니다. 장면을 묘사하는 데에도 뛰어나다고 생각하는데, 중간에 급하게 하강하는 음들을 들으면 작중에서 알렉스와 듀브아의 watery cobras를 향해 떨어지는 장면이 바로 생각나고 듣는 자신도 롤러코스터의 최고점에서 최하점으로 낙하하는 듯한 기분이 듭니다. 이 분위기에는 뒤에 계속 깔리는 4박자의 음 세트가 한몫을 한다고 생각합니다. 

 

12. Firework(By Katy Perry)

케이티 페리의 너무나도 유명한 곡이죠. 런던에서 서커스를 처음 할 때 깔린 음악으로, 음악과 함게 영상미가 어우러지면서 환상적인 장면을 만들어 내는 데에 큰 공을 했습니다. 마지막 장면, 뉴욕에서의 서커스에도 깔리면서 아이들에게 풍선을 나누어 주는 장면까지 쭉 이어지는데요. 그 곁에서 펑펑 터지는 불꽃놀이를 같이 보면서 제작진의 선곡 능력이 대단하다고 느꼈습니다.

13. Afro Circus/I Like To Move It(By Chris Rock, Danny Jacobs)

이젠 너무나 유명한 시리즈의 대표곡으로 마다가스카 3의 OST를 끝마칩니다. 역시나 영화에서도 마지막 장면에 나오는 곡입니다. 마다가스카의 펭구니 무비에서는 이 곡이 펭귄즈의 또다른 시작을 알리죠.(코왈스키: Singing getting louder, Skipper! 스키퍼: Than move faster!!) 마다3 이 장면에서는 펭귄즈 지들도 잘만 가발 쓰고 추고 있었으면서 마다가스카의 펭귄 무비에서는 또 듣기 싫다고 난리입니다. 역시 둘은 이어지는 세계관이 아닙니다. 마티 성우인 크리스 록과 줄리언 성우인 대니 제이콥스가 함께 불렀습니다.

이렇게 마다가스카 1, 2, 3 총 세 편의 영화 OST를 모두 살펴보았습니다. 마다가스카의 펭귄 OST는 하도 양이 많아서 한번 생각해 볼게요. 사실 마펭 무비 OST 정리하려고 시작한건데....ㅠㅠ마다가스카 3 OST는 멜론, 네이버 뮤직에서 들으실 수 있습니다. 애플 뮤직에는 London Music Works가 커버한 New York City Surprise가 있습니다. 읽어주셔서 감사합니다. We like to move it!
